I AM STILL HERE

About Us

Hi! My name is Jasam, and I am still here after a battle with cancer. This is my story, in 2016 I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, I had two lumps in my right breast. I went through 6 months of chemotherapy. I had double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery and radiation therapy.

Thankfully, I had an amazing husband including family members and friends who sacrificed their time to visit and spend time with me. I had an amazing support system which I am very grateful for. My husband was at every single appointment and treatment section. He was a solid support during those times. He was very hopeful and always kept saying we are just going through a bad time.

I created this foundation to reach and help out people in my community going through what I went through. Amongst the African/Liberian community people don’t often like to talk about when they are going through challenges especially with illnesses and diseases. Almost everything is a secret. This is somewhat understandable, but people need to know that it is okay to talk about these things. A friend of mine once boldly told me to stop hiding cancer and stop acting as though I was having an affair with it. That encouraged me to be open about it. And it indeed made me free as I talked and became open about it.

Yes, my name is Jasam and I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I am now in remission.
